Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Tax Executive to join our Finance & Taxation team, primarily focusing on tax filing, reporting, and compliance for Pakistan, with additional responsibilities covering the UK, Ireland, the US, and Australia. This role is critical in ensuring that our company adheres to all local and international tax regulations, maintains accurate records, and optimizes tax positions across multiple jurisdictions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure accurate and timely filing of all direct and indirect tax returns for all companies within the group. These include a UK liaison office in Pakistan, and companies involved in marketing services, financial services, and real estate development, including income tax, sales tax, and withholding tax specific to these sectors.
- Maintain full compliance with Pakistan's tax laws, especially those impacting the liaison office, marketing services and real estate transactions, while staying updated on regulatory changes that could affect the companies’ tax positions.
- Collaborate with internal departments in both companies to gather necessary data for tax filings, proactively addressing discrepancies related to any and all transactions having a tax impact.
- Coordinate with tax consultants to ensure compliance with international tax regulations for the liaison office and other applicable rules for the group companies, particularly in the UK, Ireland, the US, and Australia.
- Assist in developing tax strategies for optimizing tax positions of the group, identifying tax-saving opportunities on expenses.
- Conduct research on tax implications affecting the group activities across all relevant jurisdictions, providing insights on potential impacts to the company’s financial position.
- Monitor and analyse tax risks, preparing detailed reports and recommendations for senior management.
- Maintain organized tax records, ensuring audit readiness, and assist in financial statement preparation with accurate tax data, including deferred taxes as applicable.
- Act as the primary contact for tax authorities in Pakistan for the group, managing audits, inquiries, and other compliance issues.
- Implement process improvements for tax filing and compliance, while promoting continuous learning within the team on best practices in the industries that the group is engaged in.
- Advise on improvements in the accounting and HR systems to better integrate and automate tax calculations.
Qualifications and skills:
- A degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, and/or relevant certification (e.g., ACCA, ACA, CPA, CTA) is preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in tax management, with a primary focus on Pakistan and exposure to tax practices in the UK, Ireland, the US, or Australia.
- Demonstrated experience with tax filings, compliance, and reporting, ideally within a multinational company or an accounting firm.
- Strong understanding of tax laws in Pakistan and basic knowledge of tax regulations in secondary markets.
- Proficiency in accounting and tax software, as well as advanced skills in MS Excel.
- Excellent analytical and research skills, with the ability to interpret complex tax regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Proactive and solution-oriented, with a strong ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Adaptable and willing to stay updated on changes in tax regulations and industry best practices
