The Non-Linear Video Editor will report to the Assignment Editor.

Job Overview

The Non-Linear Video Editor (NLE) is responsible for editing video content for news, social media, and special features using modern editing software. The role requires creativity, technical expertise, and the ability to work under tight deadlines while maintaining high production quality. The editor must ensure all video outputs are visually engaging, factually correct, and aligned with the newsroom’s editorial standards.

Responsibilities and Duties

Following is the list of the responsibilities and duties of this job.
  • Edit video content (news packages, short clips, promos, social media videos, explainer videos) using industry-standard NLE software.
  • Enhance video quality through color correction, stabilization, and audio improvement.
  • Collaborate with reporters, scriptwriters and assignment team to know about their needs and understanding of making a video
  • Ensure timely delivery of videos, especially for fast-turnaround news content.
  • Maintain project organization by properly naming, storing, and archiving all assets.
  • Ensure logical sequencing of the video and use relevant music, voiceovers, graphics and effects.
  • Seek for assignment editor’s approval before posting any video
  • Discover and implement new editing techniques to maximize efficiency.
  • Stay updated with new editing techniques, trends, and digital storytelling styles.
  • Ensure compliance with copyright rules, music licensing, and organizational policies.

Required Skills & Competencies
 
  • Proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro, Adobe photoshop, Cap Cut Pro, or any relevant editing software.
  • Strong understanding of video storytelling, pacing, and visual composition.
  • Ability to work fast and accurately under pressure.
  • Familiarity with motion graphics and basic design tools (e.g., After Effects, Canva) is an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of audio editing, sound mixing, and voice-over integration.
  • Ability to adapt editing style for different platforms (news, reels, vlogs, podcast).
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple projects.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Media Studies, Film Production, Mass Communication, or a related field (preferred but not mandatory if skills are strong).
  • Minimum 1-2 years of experience in video editing (newsroom or digital media experience preferred).
  • A professional portfolio/reel showcasing previous work is required.
